Lannice Ann was born on November 24,1934 in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was the youngest of 4 children born to Earcel and Cleone Ostler. Around 6 years of age, Lannice was in the process of being adopted by Harold and Elmina Papworth and moved to Afton, Wyoming. Lannice loved her adopted parents beyond measure and grew up in Star Valley loving horses, hunting, singing, dancing, and playing the piano.
In 1947, Lannice accompanied her parents to Hawaii upon them receiving a mission call from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to serve there for 2 years.In high school she was a majorette with the marching band and was involved in her schools drama productions and student government.
On June 9, 1953 she married Wendell G Montague in the Salt Lake City Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Together they would go on to raise a family of 8 children. In 1956, Lannice and Wendell moved to Logan, Utah to go to school at Utah State University.
While there she worked in the USU Bookstore and in the USU bakery. She would also teach piano lessons to help support her young family. In 1960, Lannice and Wendell moved to San Diego, California where Wendell got his first teaching job. Lannice would be a full-time mom and homemaker. She taught piano lessons from her home for more than 60 years.
Lannice was also a devout member of her church where most of her callings involved her playing the piano, leading music and teaching young children the gospel. She was involved in numerous church theatrical and musical productions. In retirement Lannice would ‘snowbird’ with her husband between San Diego and Star Valley until 2017.
Lannice Ann Montague passed away peacefully in her sleep on August 19th, 2020, only 3 days after her husband of 67 years had passed. Lannice was preceded in death by her siblings Mel and Shirley and her son Eddie Dale.
She is survived by her brother Don, 7 children: Glenn, Harold, Keith, Eric, Brett, Julie, Spencer and their spouses, 18 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren
