Verd B. Erickson's Obituary



Verd B. Erickson passed away on April 14, 2013 surrounded by his family in Ogden, Utah. Verd was born on Aug. 18, 1932 to Clarence Henry and Emily Barrus Erickson in Fairview. He was the third of seven children born to this union. He attended school in Fairview, Auburn and later in Afton, where he graduated from Star Valley High School. Verd then joined the draft and was deployed into the Wyoming National Guard. He fought in the Korean War in the heavy tank company. He was discharged in May 1952 with the rank of SFC. He then worked that year for the Forest Service. Verd married Patricia Florence Van Noy on Dec. 20, 1953 in Thayne. They were later sealed in the Idaho Fall LDS?Temple on May 11, 1968. They had four children: Bradley, Pamela, Curtis, and Loran. Pat died in October 2003. Verd later married Judy Young Toland. Verd went to work for the Wyoming Highway Department in Afton in 1958 where he retired after 30 years. Verd had several callings within the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints which were Auburn Ward Clerk, Counselors in the Bishopric, Stake High Councilman and also sustained as the 13th Bishop of the Auburn Ward. Verd and Pat were also Temple workers in the Idaho Falls Temple for 24 years. This brought great joy to them. Verd will always be known as the "life saver" man, having candies in his pocket. He is well known as the "family agitator" who loved to tease and passed that trait down to each of his children and grandkids. He loved the outdoors. One of his favorite things to do was to go camping and take rides in the mountains. He had a passion for the Lander Trail and the forest areas in Star Valley. Verd was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Emily; his wife Patricia; sister, Carol and Keith Izatt (brother in-law). He is survived by his children: Bradley V and Debra Erickson (Thornton, Colo.); Pamela V and John Sprouse (Ogden, Utah); Curtis V Erickson (Rawlins); Loran V and Amber Erickson (Pinedale). Grandchildren: Terra Deann and Mike Menefee; Taneal Lian Erickson, Kailey Danae Erickson, Alec Colton Erickson, Cylieann V Erickson, Ethan V Erickson, Skyler Verd Erickson, Colten, Briggs. Funeral services were held Thursday, April 18 with burial in the Auburn Cementary.
