Vaughn J Haderlie's Obituary

Vaughn J Haderlie, 79, of Freedom, passed away at Star Valley Medical Center surrounded by family on July 19, 2013. He was born to Gilbert and Phyllis Haderlie in Freedom on Nov. 26, 1933, the second child of six children. Vaughn grew up on the ranch and attended elementary school in Freedom and graduated high school in Afton. Vaughn served an LDS mission to the New England states, followed by 2 years as an Army paratrooper, where he began writing a girl a friend told him about. He personally met this girl in the summer of 1958 and Vaughn and Danice were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on June 10, 1959. They had 6 children, the oldest passed away after 2 days. Vaughn and Danice raised their family on his father's ranch in Freedom. He spent most of his life outfitting in Southeast Idaho in his own company from 1968 to 2000. In the off-season, he worked construction, including 15 years grooming ski slopes for Snow King Resort, in Jackson. In 1988, Vaughn was nearly killed in a horse accident. This led him to partnering with his son David in running the outfitting business. In 2000, Danice had a stroke, and Vaughn sold the business to focus on her health. From 2005 to 2009, Vaughn and Danice lived in Thermopolis, near their daughters and grandkids. They then returned to Star Valley to be home. Vaughn spent the last three years battling a number of health issues, spending the last winter with his son David, in Idaho Falls, Idaho. He had a full summer enjoying camping and visits from various children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and family friends. Vaughn loved life, dogs, horses and especially family. He loved all his grandchildren and great-grandchildren equally and deeply. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Saints. He enjoyed serving in Primary and Sunday School, and as membership clerk and home teacher. Vaughn is preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert and Phyllis Haderlie, and his first child, Julia Danice Haderlie. He is survived by his wife, Danice, and his siblings Evelyn Suter, Dennis Juel (Carolyn) Haderlie, Linda (George) Linford, Peggy (Laurel) Hoopes, and Terry Haderlie; and his children, David (Lorie) Haderlie, John (Stephanie) Haderlie, Vicki (Ralph) Powell, Jay (Missy) Haderlie, and Meg Randolph. He also has 14 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. The family will receive visitors for viewing on Friday, July 26 from 6-8 p.m. at the Schwab Mortuary in Thayne and from 9-10:15 a.m. on Saturday, July 27 in Freedom, prior to the funeral. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 27 at the LDS church in Freedom, with a grave-side service to follow at the Freedom Cemetery.
