Darrel Eugene "Skip" Winchester Jr. passed away peacefully on June 17, 2026, in Afton,
Wyoming, at the age of 80.
Skip was born on December 21, 1945, in Seattle, Washington, to Darrel Eugene
Winchester Sr. and Ruth Violet Bolt. He spent his childhood in Bothell, Washington,
where he developed a strong work ethic and a willingness to help others. He worked in
construction for many years and was always ready to lend a hand to family and friends.
Skip was first married to Shirley Albertson, and together they welcomed their daughter,
Sabrina. Although their marriage later ended, he remained proud of his family.
In 1980, while listening to Channel 19 on his CB radio late one Saturday night, Skip met
Cindy "Firebird" Roberts. They agreed to meet for coffee the following day. Cindy told
him she would be bringing someone very special. When they met, they both laughed and
said they were never getting married again—but life had other plans. They were married
on September 23, 1980, and shared a loving marriage for the rest of Skip's life.
Skip lovingly welcomed Cindy's daughter, Machelle, into his heart as his own. Their
family later grew with the addition of Teresa and Matthew. Teresa was born on Skip’s
birthday, and he proudly helped deliver her at home. In April 1985, they moved to
Thayne, Wyoming, where Skip continued his career in construction. After settling into
their new home, their last child, Matthew, was born in Wyoming in August 1985. Over
the years, he worked for Clarks Construction, Evans Construction, Bressler Insulation,
Flagging, and Freedom Arms before retiring.
Skip treasured the friendships he built throughout his life. He shared a very special bond
with Lee and Janet Schwab and Todd and Connie Luthi. Together they enjoyed camping,
Boy Scout trips, fishing, playing cards, and making countless memories. Todd became
much more than a friend—he was a loyal companion, helper, teacher, and someone who
made it a point to check on Skip every day. Those visits meant the world to him.
Skip will be remembered for his hardworking spirit, kind heart, generosity, and the love
he had for his family and friends. He touched many lives through his willingness to help
others and his genuine friendship.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Cindy; his daughters, Sabrina, Teresa Vincent (Jeff),
and Machelle Daboll (Jake); nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Darrel Eugene Winchester Sr. and Ruth Violet
Bolt; his son, Matthew Eugene Winchester; his grandson, James Vaughn Vincent; his
sister, Connie Baldridge; and his brother, Maurice Winchester.
A celebration of Skip's life will be held on July 11 at 11:00 a.m. at Thayne Cemetery. In
lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated to help with the costs.
He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever carried in the hearts of all
who knew and loved him.
