Shaire
Call
February 11, 1942 – July 31, 2025
Shaire B. Call, age 83, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday July 31 st , 2025
surrounded by loved ones. She has bravely fought cancer over the past two years and
has kept a positive outlook, despite increasingly bad news.
She was born February 11 th , 1942 to Fielding and Laura Burton as the fourth of nine
children. She was born and raised in rural Afton on the Burton Ranch where she
learned to work hard. She graduated from Star Valley HS in 1960. After high school she
attended business college in Salt Lake City while Kenny was courting her. She married
her sweetheart Kenny in 1961 in the Idaho Falls Temple. They raised four children in
their home in Afton, that they built with their own hands.
She was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Church of Latter-day Saints her
whole life. She held many positions, including Scout Advancement Chairman for many
years, but in recent years was a beloved Ward Organist in the Afton Second Ward. She
also served as a temple worker in the Star Valley Temple, until her health failed her two
years ago. She was a dedicated member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers for
many, many years.
Shaire dedicated many years of service in our community in many different areas. She
served on the ambulance for 38 years as an EMT II, being one of the founding
members of the organization. She spent many years teaching first aid and CPR classes
to the youth as a volunteer, including being the First Aid Merit Badge Counselor for the
Boy Scouts. She was a piano teacher, an aide for the severely handicapped at the
school district, a CNA at the hospital where she bathed many babies, a home health
nurse, and a swimming instructor. She also had been part of the SV Art Guild. She was
awarded in 1997 with the Silver Beaver Award from the Boy Scouts of America.
She enjoyed bowling, crocheting, quilting, picnics, going up Swift Creek Canyon,
traveling, painting, piano playing, sewing, playing cards with friends, and most of all
spending time with her grandchildren. She was a big part of the family and always on
the go, spending time with them. She traveled to many places and experienced more
interesting things than can be possibly listed here. Just to keep up with Grandma, her
grandkids have a very long bucket list.
Shaire was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth F. Call and son Terry Call and
also by her parents, and 4 siblings Jeanene, Lonell, Amarylis, and Kim. She is survived
by two daughters Jeana (David) Call and Kristi (Donald) Staley, and one son Garry
(Tiffany) Call, 10 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
With her legacy of service and hard work, we as a family have such a great example to
follow. She is greatly loved and will be missed by all her family and friends.
Funeral services, conducted by Schwab Mortuary, will be held at the Afton Tabernacle
at 11 am on Monday, August 11 th , with a graveside dedication following at the Afton
Cemetery.
