Scott Allen Nield's Obituary

Scott Allen Nield, 66, passed away on July 18, 2014 due to complications of severe pancreatitis that took his health and allowed cancer to develop.

Scott was born May 15, 1948 to Warren and Pearl Ethyl Nelson Nield. His brother, LRay and his sister, Linda welcomed him to their home. He was raised on Nield String surrounded by many relatives and friends. There are many happy memories of playing in cattails at the meadow, riding bicycles, and other activities, as well as hard work. He was part of the graduating class of 1966. While attending Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho, he obtained his private pilot license.

After going on a mission for the LDS Church in the Southwest British Mission, he attended school at Brigham Young University. There he met Carol Pearson, who was in his family home evening family. He said she was his best friend. They were married in the Idaho Falls Temple on November 24, 1970. They were blessed with four children and eight grandchildren. He loved his children, but he thought his grandchildren were the best and enjoyed spoiling them.

After deciding not to make a career of the Air Force, Scott and Carol moved to Star Valley where Scott had various jobs. One job he enjoyed was managing the Star Valley Trout Ranch owned by Jim Grasse.

Scott was the supervisor for Lincoln County Weed and Pest for almost 30 years. He was a valuable source of information to those who needed help. It took several years and hard work, but he was proud when the Leafy Spurge Flea Beetle was established in Star Valley. He always said not to let weeds go to seed as you have more weeds to fight each year. He would climb up mountains to pull noxious weeds even on his days off.

Scott worked hard and taught his children to work. In his hayfields, as he changed the sprinkler pipes, he would pull seed heads off weeds, getting his wife and children to help. His daughter thought night flowering catchfly was a noxious weed, knowing the name of it when she was only three years old. Everything needed to be done yesterday and he would not rest until a job was done.

Being outdoors, fishing, riding the Ranger up in the mountains, and just enjoying the beauty of this earth was what Scott loved best. He grew to love traveling and enjoyed many trips. There was always something noticed and discussed as they traveled in a car. Scott was always very curious. He asked many questions and had a love of learning.

He enjoyed raising chickens, bunnies, ducks and showing them to the grandkids. This is a fond memory the grandkids have of him. They also loved his fish pond.

He loved retirement, being able to do things without the pressure of having a full-time job. Scott kept his farm clean and tidy. When his wife worked, he did household chores. He always had projects to do and never was bored.

He had several callings in the LDS Church, teaching children and adults, Elders Quorum, High Priest and serving in the bishopric. Being a temple worker in the Idaho Falls Temple brought him great joy. He had a deep love of God.

Scott is survived by his wife of 43 years, Carol, children, Steven Scott Nield (Carrie), Wade Allen Nield, Nicole Lyda Anglesey (Robert), Robert Warren Nield (Elizabeth), and eight grandchildren, Madison Nield,
