Lloyd Sanderson

Orion Lloyd "Sandy" Sanderson, 74, of Cheyenne died Nov. 16, 2011 at Cheyenne Regional Medical Center. He was born May 3, 1937 in Afton, the son of Orion LaMont and Louie Heap Sanderson.

Funeral Services were held on Monday, Nov. 21, 2011 in the Freedom LDS Chapel.

Lloyd grew up in Freedom, attending grade school there. In 1955 he graduated from Star Valley High School, where he had played various sports and excelled athletically.

Lloyd enjoyed a successful 29 year career with the Wyoming Highway Patrol going through the ranks until he became major in 1985. He had been stationed in Evanston, Rock Springs, Worland and Cheyenne. Upon retirement from the patrol, he worked as the Motor Vehicles Services Manager in the Wyoming Department of Transportation for 10 years.

Lloyd was large in stature and in heart. He was compassionate and kind especially with the elderly. He will be remembered for his love of the outdoors, particularly hunting and fishing. Lloyd married Linda Call in 1959 and had three children. They divorced in 1991 and he married Annette Miller whom he later divorced in 2005. He then married and enjoyed his last six years with Gwen Steadman.

Lloyd is survived by his wife, Gwen; his children LeAnn Asay (David Scott, deceased), Orion Lynn Sanderson, Lisa Hull (Jeffery Jon); five step children, Dan Thomas, Lori Veigel (Kyle), Jerry Thomas (Kelly),Shelly Shearer, and Kelly Thomas (Rebecca); eight grandchildren; and 13 step grandchildren. He is survived by sisters LaDean Clark, Joyce Cherry, Yvonne Card (Phillip), Linda Call (Don) and brothers Delmar Sanderson (Linda) and Dennis Sanderson (Koral).

He was preceded in death by his parents, and son-in-law.
