Leo
Pendleton
February 17, 2017
Leo Calvin Pendleton passed very peacefully from this life on February 17, 2017 in his winter home in Saint George, Utah. He exemplified, in his life and death, his love and devotion to his Creator and his family. Leo was born April 11, 1930 in Afton, Wyoming to Calvin George and Espesa Roberts Pendleton. He spent his entire life in Star Valley where he graduated from Star Valley High School and where he met his eternal companion, Betty Jean Porter Pendleton. Leo and Betty were married in the Salt Lake Temple September 21, 1949 and they spent the next 67 years building together a life exemplified by love, faith, commitment and hard work. Nothing was more important to Leo than the gospel of Jesus Christ and the love he had for his family. He found his greatest satisfaction in the successes and strengths of his children, their spouses and his grandchildren. By choice and by necessity Leo was a hard working dairy farmer extraordinaire. He had an incredible work ethic and a love for farming and the out of doors. His industriousness and love was continually shown to family, friends and neighbors. His expertise was noted by many and honored when he was elected the Star Valley Swiss Cheese Company President and President of Lincoln County Farm Bureau and Wyoming Southwest Director. He promoted Boys Scouts of America for many years and was generous with his time and means. Leo worked tirelessly to serve his family and the Lord. He was always ready with a word of encouragement, a smile or a treat and never missed an opportunity to praise, teach and love his children and grandchildren. Leo was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and truly loved the Lord. He found great joy in dedicating his time and talents to serve his church and his fellowman. He faithfully served as Ward Clerk, Young Men's President, Bishopric, High Councilman, Bishop, and Temple Ordinance worker. His steadfast commitment to the gospel and his family were his constant desires; and they were the guiding light as Leo and Betty served three full time missions to Nigeria, Nauvoo and Salt Lake Temple Square. His example will serve as a lasting legacy for his family. Leo was not only loved for his work and his dedication to his family, but by all who associated with him as they were drawn to his friendship and cheerfulness. Services were held at the Thayne LDS Church on Friday February 24, 2017. Interment followed that same day at the Thayne Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Betty; children, Lana (Randy) Hillstead, David Leo (Teri) Pendleton, Val D. (Shelley) Pendleton, Ann (Michael) Alletto, Becky (Robert) Allen, Linda (Dewayne) Smith; 26 grandchildren; 42 great grandchildren. Preceeded in death by his parents Calvin George Pendleton, Espesa Roberts Pendleton; Sister –in-law Yovonne Pendleton, Brother-in-law Gleno Draney; 4 grandchildren and 2 great grandchild.
