Larry Levoy
Bates
November 28, 2015
Larry LeVoy Bates passed away in his home Saturday, Nov. 28, 2015 after a long battle with cancer. Funeral services will be Saturday Dec 5th at 11am in the Bedford LDS Ward. There will be a viewing Friday night from 6-8pm at Schwab Mortuary in Thayne, WY, and from 9-10am prior to the funeral on the 5th at the church.
Larry was born January 30th, 1945 to Ruth Imogen Sorensen and Charles Edwin Foster Bates in Driggs, Idaho. He married his eternal companion Marsha Ann Hathaway in the Idaho Falls temple on August 11, 1967. He is survived by his wife, Marsha, and four children Jeffery (Danelle) Bates of Saratoga Springs, UT; Brett (Nicole) Bates of Afton, WY; Jason (Tori) Bates of Eagle Point, OR; and Kelly (Jason) Moulton of Blackfoot, ID with 11 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Larry grew up in Driggs, ID where he graduated from high school then went on to Ricks College before serving a mission in England. After his marriage to Marsha, he was drafted into the Army during the Vietnam War. His great love in life, besides his family, was being a cowboy. Most of his working years were spent managing ranches, raising kids, and chasing cows. When he wasn't working he was playing hard teaching his kids to love snow and water skiing. Many family vacations revolved around boating. He also spent much of his time in service to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; he faithfully put all of his effort into everything he was asked to do. His big heart and willingness to serve and help anyone in need was well known, he is loved and will be missed by all.
