John Dewey Campbell passed away January 24, 2014 after a 5 month battle with Leukemia.
John was born on March 15, 1936 to Joseph Dewey Campbell and LaRue Nelson Campbell in Afton, WY, where he was raised with his two brothers, Jerry and Craig and sister Linda.
At the age of 16, John was trained to be an electrician by his father. He had a Master Electrician license and owned his business C-C Electric both in Jackson, WY and Star Valley, WY for over 50 years.
John started painting and drawing in high school and continued throughout his life. He loved hunting, fishing and camping and never stopping sharing his love of nature, the american west, native american and mountain man cultures with others. He loved to dance and many have fond memories of him dancing with his favorite partner, his high school sweetheart and wife of 58 years, Sherma Nelson Campbell. John and Sherma were married in the Salt Lake Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on May 13, 1955 and have 5 children. Greg (Sandy) Campbell of Grand Junction, CO, Debra Campbell of Tucson, AZ, Teresa (Chris) Marasek of Burbank, CA, Holly (Mark) Weston of Fairview, WY and Justin Campbell of Jersey City, NJ.
John moved his family to Jackson in 1965 where they lived until 1985, when he returned to Star Valley. While in Jackson, he served his church in numerous positions including Bishop of the Jackson 1st Ward and 2nd Councilor of the Driggs, Idaho Stake. He was also the director of the Jackson Hole Historical Center and was instrumental in bringing the Mormon Tabernacle Choir to perform at the Grand Teton Music Festival. While in Star Valley, he served his church in various positions including Afton, Wyoming Stake Mission President.
John also served his country and community as a Sergeant in the National Guard, a commissioner for Boy Scouts of America, as a member of the Star Valley Arts Council and was on the Lincoln County School Board for 8 years, serving as it's president for 2 years.
