Glayd Wollenzien Chadwick's Obituary

Glayd Wollenzien Chadwick passed away June 2, 2013 in Afton. His loving family was by his side. Glayd entered the world on Sept. 1, 1932 in Afton, the son of Clarence Richard (Doc) Chadwick and Mary Ammaressa (Ressa) Wollenzien. He spent most of his childhood days in Freedom, moving to Afton when he was 15 years old. His childhood days were happy ones as he spent quality time with his family fishing, picnicing, camping, and playing with his older brothers. When Glayd was 18, he received the rank of Eagle Scout. He graduated from Star Valley High School in 1951 and went to work for one year as a lineman for the Bell Telephone Company. In 1952 he joined the army and was called to serve in the Korean war that fall where he was stationed in Germany. He was issued an honorable release after two and a half years.
Shortly after returning home, he met the love of his life, Maurine Mackley from Driggs, Idaho. They were sealed in the Idaho Falls LDS?Temple on Aug. 18, 1955. Glayd worked with his father on the mink ranch on the bench east of Afton for 33 years. The summer after he retired from the mink business he worked a few years for the Forest Service grooming trails and other necessary maintenance. Glayd loved to have a good time. He was out-going, friendly, kind hearted and a big tease. He was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in various church callings. He was committed to the gospel and loved to share it with anyone not of his faith. He loved his family dearly and loved to spend time with them. Glayd's favorite hobbies were fishing, hunting, riding his four-wheeler and snowmobiling. He loved the outdoors and he was proud to live in the beautiful Star Valley. He was an active member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars of the United States and also served there for many years. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and two sisters. He was also preceded in death by his wife and stillborn son. He is survived by his children: LeAnn Merrell (Yerington, Nevada); LaJean Pieper, (Rexburg, Idaho); Alan Chadwick; Teri Bowers; and Russell Chadwick (all of Afton). Funeral services were held at the Afton LDS?Stake Center on June 8, 2013. Interment was in the Afton Cemetery.
