Florence (Humpherys) Parker's Obituary

Florence Humpherys Parker passed away on June 5, 2024. Florence Parker was born on December 12, 1943. Florence was the fourth child of Dean Gadner Humpherys and Neva Clark Humpherys. She was the youngest of the three girls and had seven brothers. Her childhood was busy, fun, and farm work. Like most children at that time, there were many chores to do, church to attend, and lots of rough play with siblings where spankings were allowed and probably deserved.

Horses were a big part of our recreation and countless races and lots of run-aways and more than a few broken bones, bruising, and scrapes. Still the best memories included a horse. After elementary school in Etna, JR High and High School were in Afton, WY. High school was some of the happiest times in her life. Lifetime bonds with friends and loved ones were formed at Star Valley High School.

After high school there were four years at Utah State University. Florence met Dennis Vance Madsen while working in Jackson Hole. They were married in 1968. In 1975 their son Vance Dean was born in Las Vegas, NV. Florence taught Elementary school in Idaho, Utah, Las Vegas, Anchorage, and Star Valley. She retired after many years of teaching in a Lincoln County School. After 10 years in Vegas, Dennis and Flo moved to Thayne, Wyoming. Where Dennis died in a car accident. In 1981 Florence and Larry Parker were married in Anchorage, Alaska. After 3 years in Alaska, they moved to Etna, Wyoming, Larry established Star Valley Furniture and Florence finished her teaching career. Most of their lives were spent in Star Valley. It will always be their home. Florence's true love, Larry, was loved by all the family. Joyce and Vance loved Larry and appreciated all he did for Flo. Vance and his family were always close and a positive influence in their lives.

Flo loved her family and has always considered them the biggest blessing. Three brothers died and remains the saddest times of our lives, John, the musician, Robert, the cowboy, and Ray, the champion backpacker and school teacher. Her sister will always be loved and Sharon has also passed. Flo loved to collect and restore antiques. Vance and Joyce gave us a great joy, in the form of a grandson Parker Chase Madsen. Our greatest blessing, Which they shamelessly spoiled.

Florence is preceded in death by the brothers; Robert, John, and Ray, and sister Sharon.  Her loving husband Larry passed in October of 2023, a baby Gordon Ray, who died shortly after birth. She is survived by her son Vance Madsen and grandson Parker Madsen.
