Eva Mae Fluckiger
Eva Mae Olson Fluckiger passed away Dec. 8, 2011 at her home in Afton, surrounded by her family. Eva was born on May 23, 1929 in Osmond, to Albert Louis Olson and Helen Mae Crook. She was the eighth of nine children, which included Evenly, Blanche, Ralph, Rex, Lynn, Delos, Vergil and Dallas.
She liked high school and loved to dance, that is where she met Glen. On Dec. 12, 1944 the couple was married in the Logan LDS Temple for time and all eternity.
Glen was called into service and was stationed in Alaska. During that time, Eva was a cook at the Osmond School. She was paid $3 per day.
When Glen was discharged from the service, they moved to Riverton, then to Salmon and eventually made their way back to Afton.
Glen started working for the Lower Valley Power and Light. They purchased a building that used to be the Osmond grocery store and remodeled if for their home. They raised their family and lived in his home for many years.
Glen and Eva loved spending time camping with friends and family. The Greys River was a favorite camping place and holds fond memories for their family. She also spent quality time with family, baking, making quilts or taking shopping trips together. Eva was featured as Cook of the Week in the Star Valley Independent. Lots of quilts were sewn, meals shared, and memories made.
Eva was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in various capacitates, including ward Relief Society President. Eva was a long time member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers. She was given award for being the fifth generation. She joined camp Minnie in Osmond, and was transferred to Camp Susan B. Cazier of Afton when she moved. She served as company captain among other positions. She also belonged to the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Glen; and brothers, Rex, Delos, and Ralph.
She is survived by nine children: Jan (Ted) Harmon; Cheryl (Charles) Sutter; Dixie (Hal) Hepworth; Jill (Matthew) Roberts; Glenda (Jay) Nelson; Larry (Alison) Fluckiger; Judy (Jim) Maupin; Kaylene (Mike) McDonald; and Layne Fluckiger , 36 grandchildren and 66 great grandchildren.
