Beth Charlene Johns
Jensen
February 16, 2013
Beth Charlene Johns Jensen passed away on Feb. 16, 2013. She was the daughter of Charles and Bertha Johns. Charlene was the oldest of three children. She had a younger brother, Stanford, and a sister, Ruth Ann. Both of Charlene's parents had been married previously. So she had seven siblings from her parent's previous marriages: Leonard, LaVere, Albert, Wilda, Gene, Helen and Blanche. As a little girl, Charlene played kick the can, jacks, and she liked to play with the neighbor kids by getting a tire and rolling it down the street. Another fond memory was meeting with neighbor kids around a bon fire at night. They would each throw a potato in the fire and while it was cooking tell stories and sing. Charlene went to school in Afton and then went to business college in Salt Lake. She moved back to Afton to work at the Afton Creamery as a part time secretary. She also wrapped butter there. This was where she met Royal Jensen as he hauled milk to the creamery from some of the local dairies. They soon started dating and were married in her parent's home and then later sealed in the Logan LDS?Temple.
Charlene and Royal had four children, Michael, Debbie, Kris and Ruthann. Charlene later worked at the Rexall Drug in Afton. She was a clerk and a soda jerk for many customers who wouldn't go in until she was on duty because she put more ice cream in the drinks. She was hired on with the school district to work as the secretary of the junior high. She worked there for 22 years before retiring. Charlene loved to go dancing with Royal at the Valleon whenever there was a dance or a big band that came into the valley. Charlene loved her flower gardens and spent many hours growing flowers. She also loved to sit under the patio and look at the birds, clouds and sunsets. She never tired of these simple things and enjoyed the beauty of nature. Charlene loved to travel. She enjoyed going to places that she had never been. Charlene had been on eight cruises, traveled to Australia, Tasmania, New Zealand, Europe, Africa and South America. Charlene loved to travel to Hawaii and spend time at the beach. Locally she enjoyed going to Yellowstone every year either around her birthday or anniversary. Charlene was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and she served in the Relief Society and Primary. She also was a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers for 33 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Ruth Ann, Blanche, Wilda; brothers, Leonard, LaVere, Albert, Gene; and a granddaughter, Alisa. She is survived by her husband, Royal; Mike (Trudi) Jensen; Debbie (Barry) Arnold; Kris (Rick) Smith; and Ruthann. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren; a brother, Stanford; and sister, Helen. Funeral services were held March 2 in Afton.
