Rama Cheney Obituary

Rama White Cheney stepped gracefully through the veil, into the arms of her anxiously waiting parents Hilda and Myron White, sister,  Klea White, and grandson Wyatt Cheney, on December 12, 2018.  Her faithful and devoted husband, Delbert Cheney of 54 years cared for her with unbounded love and devotion to her last moment in life, giving her the wish of her heart to never leave her Star Valley Home.

Rama was born October 6th 1941 in Afton, Wyoming.  She lived a life full of music, dance and creativity.  As a youth she was active in mutual, and loved Harvest Balls.  She attended Ricks College where she was a Vikadette and sang in A Cappella Choir.  There she met Delbert LaMar Cheney of Archer, Idaho while they were attending Ricks College.  After graduating, she attended BYU while he served a mission. Rama and Delbert were married, and sealed for eternity on July 29, 1964 in the Idaho Falls Temple. Rama and Delbert had many businesses in Star Valley. The one she is most well-known for is Cheney’s Wedding Decorating.  She loved to create beauty in all she strived to do.

Rama served in various callings throughout her life in the Primary and Relief Society.  Her last calling was to the nursery.  She loved little children and could coax them away from their tears and sorrows.  Most of all, Rama treasured her solid and resounding testimony of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ, and the blessings of family.  Delbert and Rama served two missions together for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Washington D.C.  There they served as ordinance workers in the temple as well as grounds and construction crew.  Most of all, Rama loved serving in the temple, both in Idaho Falls and in Washington D.C.

Rama suffered from age-related illness, but she never failed to give you a hug and tell you she loved you.  She was living in her home in Thayne, Wyoming when she passed away, close to her husband, in her own home, under the shadow of her Haystack Mountain.

Rama is survived by her beloved spouse, Delbert Cheney, their 6 children: Paul (Joni) Cheney, Jayna (Dallen) Smith, Desiree (Jeff) Collings, Justin (Leni) Cheney, Sharina (Barry) Beutler, and Markay (Emily) Cheney; 29 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren, and her siblings, Nada Fluckiger, Klea White, Reldon White, Gordon White and Vona Hunsaker.

A viewing will be held on Monday, December 17th from 6:00 -8:00 pm in the Thayne LDS Chapel.  The funeral will be held in the Thayne LDS Chapel on Tuesday, December 18th, 2018 at 12 pm with a viewing prior to the funeral service from 10:00 – 11:45 am.  Her mortal body will be lovingly laid to rest next to her parents in the Thayne Cemetery to await the Resurrection.
